As someone with a terrible back, I’m a HUGE fan of the Modern Lite. I still get to enjoy all the great tone of a Les Paul without the ridiculous weight! I plan to buy a second one very soon.
Those pickups are actually the 490T in the neck, 498T for the bridge. So slightly hotter version of the 490T. Played one of these around a month ago upon their release and immediately fell in love with the feel. I have an old Epiphone Les Paul Standard made in 2000 i think, and a newer model of Fender Tele. This guitar literally feels like a combo of both a LP standard 60s and a Tele. In short, I want one of these.
I love how my SG 6.6lbs feels when playing. I love my Les Paul Classic Lite too but it gets a little heavy after a while 7.8lbs. I'm stoked that these are not flat top, what I don't like about the special\tribute so to me it's just a LP Lite without the maple cap and binding. Can't wait to pick one up.
1600 Euro! 😅 I don’t think so. Way way too much. Was expecting around 850 or 900. Even more expensive than a Tribute. Bought that in 2015 from Thomann (850 adjusted to 2023 inflation)
There is no longer any reason to buy just this manufacturer, neither has "special features" in wood, production or "authenticity". These instruments are usually not only bad - Made in usa is not a seal of quality - not even with Tesla - but also damn expensive. There is really, no reason whatsoever to buy this manufacturer. The quality is under the kitchen table.

The Lite should provide a comparable experience to my LP CM, which I find to be remarkably enjoyable, minimal and unapologetically practical; this Lite adds the neck pickup, excludes the maple cap and uses a tunomatic instead of a wraparound.
Lite reminds me of my Gibson The Paul Firebrand i bought in 1983 for 507€. Great guitar. Slim, comfortable and as Les Paul himself prefered, all mahogany.
Geeez that modern Blue burst is sweet. Bright, but musical. In your face and just sharp. Looks the part too. I would like to hear it next to the typical brighter guitars, like SG and even a Strat (well, and a LP Standard) to hear how it sounds compared to those.
Lite on everything but the price tag. Ouch. And of course thinning the body means the fancy control PCB doesn’t fit. I’m surprised someone hasn’t made even smaller push-pull pots yet (CTS did those new ones with everything on the side of a black plastic topper, but you still need an inch (~2.5 cm) of cavity depth).
That intro playing the GNR intro that EVERY newb proudly plays at Guitar Center is hilarious. Btw thanks for demoing the jangly middle position that Page always used, I feel it gets left out of reviews and it is a wonderful feature of the Les Paul.
I'm still kicking myself in the head for not getting the LP Tribute when Thomann had it for like under 700€ as a Christmas Deal around 2018. Prices today are just unreal, even Epiphones like the Kirk V cost 1500€. Wake me up...
Wow! The lite Les Pablos could be right up my alley. But 1600 bucks for a stripped down guitar is quite a lot of money. In 2014 I bought a similar US made LPJ model for 500-600. Still have that guitar. But question: How lite is "lite"? :) Thanks for the cool demo Kris and Guillaume
I'm looking at the Modern Figured to be the one LP to rule them all while allowing access too higher frets (and easier on the back). From your video it sounds like it has the old-school LP tone but perhaps just a little brighter? How do you feel the Figured tone compares to a non-weight relieved LP standard? Great review and please keep them coming!!
The moment I saw that Cobalt burst, I just had to have it :) Found a retailer that discounted brand new 20% off with the holidays sales going on... it's on its way to me, counting the days. Great review guys. 😎
1.600 € for the Modern Lite is just insane. The used market offers so much better value, the used standards and classics go for under 2K, who pays almost that price for a faded studio??
Kris, not guitar related but i made your color analysis because you look so yellowish with black clothes. You are "soft autumn" palette, try clothes with these colors and you will see yourself more vivid and prettier. ❤
And that is why everybody who's anybody plays Ibanez: Benson, Scofield, Metheny, Krasno, Vai, Satriani, Gilbert, Tim & Scottie from Polyphia... sell that junk for $400 and we can talk.
Will you make a review of the custom color series of les pauls? They are also very nice. Btw. I havent really seen those on the thomann website. Is there any reason for it?
if gibson still making brand new white studio, i will pick studio in white , but gibson no more making white studio , so creamy white les paul lite is the great choice ,same pickup without metal cover, and i think $200 cheaper , and matching headstock too, i cant thinking of any other les paul has matching headstock in my head at this moment .
The price of the Modern Lite is ridiculous considering it's not much cheaper than the Les Paul Studio. But a thinner body would be lovely to have. I just don't get why it's so much more expensive than the Tribute.
@@benedekgabor. I’m still shocked at people that buy things they don’t really need solely because it’s on sale. “But I saved 40 bucks!” “You could have saved the full price by not buying it!”

Seems like a revisit of the 2014 carve top Melody Maker but with humbuckers instead of P90s. Nothing here really indicates it’s a Modern except the belly carve, which is on the MM (and you can buy second hand for around £600). I have a Les Paul lite with coil tap and a flamed maple top and binding which i got for the same price as these Modern Lites. To be honest, for this price, new, I’d rather get an SG.

Gibson has to lower their price .its wayyyyyy too expensive for what you get.i just bought a 2nd hand epiphone les paul slash burst for 300 euros and its mint and plays like a les paul.come on gibson relax.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's not even a comparison, so maybe you should relax? This guitar is a lighter version, still a Gibson, not Epiphone, it's got all the tone of the classic LP, thinner body, with belly cut and arm contour, it's pleked which is another added feature that I don't even think these guys mention, thinner neck but still solid and a beautiful SATIN finish for those of us who hate gloss necks. You can't compare a brand new Gibson to a used Epiphone, no matter the model. It's just not the same animal.
